Extra Practice at Home!
Look up words in a dictionary
Help your students learn new words by finding them in the dictionary. This is part of the second grade Core Curriculum, but we do not yet have a set of dictionaries at our school. If you ever see a cheap dictionary please pick it up for our classroom! (yard sales, thrift stores, family willing to donate, etc) Read and Reflect (practicing comprehension) Don't only have your children read a book, but do some follow up to hold them accountable. In second grade we focus on retelling the beginning, middle, and end of the story; naming the characters, setting, problem, and solution. Practice Typing
In 3rd grade students will have to read and type their writing into the computer. Therefore, this year they have to learn to type! Please help them at home by playing Dance Mat Typing (click the link below), have them email family, type fun stories, etc. Every Monday my homeroom class will spend 30 minutes in the computer lab. I will be focusing on keeping our hands on home row, how to use the shift key, enter, backspace, and how to change the way text looks. The children absolutely love computer time! Please help them practice at home to be even more successful. Handwriting Practice Download and print this document to practice proper letter formation.
